Is This Reverse Racism ????

This is some more mess designed to keep you away from the real issues. Why does it  even matter the color of the editor is?  The editors position is designed to critique your writing not write articles. Besides I'm sure the new editor comes highly recommended and was chosen because of his or her work ethic. Do you think a non black editor is bad for Essence? What is the real issue in this situation?  Should Essence Magazine Have a White Male Managing Editor?

  1. I don't see what the problem is with having this guy as the editor. On one hand we (black ppl) are fighting for opportunities to be considered for jobs based on what we KNOW and not how we LOOK, yet the same ppl are ridiculing the new editor because of his race. I'm assuming the issue is that he's white, and not that he's a male. As long as the intent of the magazine is not tarnished it shouldn't matter what race the employees are...But it could be kind of hard creating a magazine that focuses on Black Women with an all non-black staff...but that's another story.

  2. "There is too much at stake for Essence leadership structure to be defined by cronyism."

But blatant prejudice & discrimination is the way Essence should work? I have a hard time taking this writer seriously if they are surprised at how the publication & fashion industry works.

There is no reason for Black oriented organizations to be solely include us. I would be more inclined to welcome someone different from me who has an interest in my culture, rather than shun them.

  3. I feel like there is a underlying issue in this story and that is Race. The problem is not that he is male but that he's white.
